Project G4GTanzania
A RUFFO-Led Initiative Empowering the Next Generation of Women Leaders
At a time when Tanzania is experiencing a bold rise in brilliant, ambitious young women, Project Girls for Girls (G4G) Tanzania is creating the space for them to lead — confidently, courageously, and with purpose.
Girls and women across the country are ready to step into decision-making roles in business, education, government, and community life. What often holds them back isn’t ability — it’s access: access to mentorship, real-world leadership skills, and a supportive network that believes in their potential.
Our Story
The story of Project G4G began at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2017, when a group of postgraduate women leaders from diverse backgrounds came together around a shared vision: to break down the barriers preventing women from rising into leadership roles. Recognizing the urgent need for mentorship and opportunity, they launched Project Girls for Girls — a global initiative now active in over 30 countries.
Project G4G Tanzania was officially launched on May 6, 2023, as a beacon of empowerment for young women across the nation. Proudly led by RUFFO (Raising Up Friendship Foundation), G4G Tanzania is part of a growing global movement, rooted in local leadership and impact.
Impact so far
Since launching, G4G Tanzania has already empowered cohorts of young women through partnerships with schools, companies, and institutions. Participants — from secondary school students to early-career professionals — report significant growth in confidence, clarity of purpose, and leadership capacity.
Organizations that have supported cohorts say the impact is clear:
- More confident, articulate, and engaged young women
- Strengthened gender equality efforts within teams and communities
Long-term investment in leadership and social impact
The Program
At the heart of G4G Tanzania is a transformative 7-session leadership program, designed to build leadership capacity through mentorship, practical tools, and safe spaces for reflection and growth.
Each cohort is guided by experienced women mentors drawn from diverse professional backgrounds. Together, mentors and mentees journey through these seven sessions:
- Building Trust — Creating a safe, inclusive environment that fosters connection, honesty, and personal growth.
- Courageous Leadership — Exploring what it means to lead bravely and authentically, especially as a woman.
- The Art of Communication — Learning to speak clearly and persuasively while listening with empathy.
- Negotiation: Advocating for Yourself and Others — Developing the confidence and techniques to secure better outcomes.
- Public Service and Running for Office — Understanding civic engagement and how women can shape their communities.
- Ethics and Values in Decision-Making — Choosing integrity over fear, and leading with clarity and purpose.
- Mind Over Matter — Addressing mental health, building resilience, and supporting others through challenges.
These sessions are interactive, relevant, and life-affirming — designed to build self-awareness, sharpen leadership instincts, and help girls and young women take action with confidence.
